100 Questions for a DeviantARTIST
01.] What is your pen name?
Lupis Darkmoon
02.] What made you choose this name?
It's the evolution of my first "Pen name," Wolf. That evolved into Wolfington, then Lupis, and now Lupis Darkmoon. It's pretty cliché and silly, but I've used it for so long that it's just my second name now.
I think I first used it as a character name. Luckily I quickly abandoned that idea.
03.] Do you use PC or Mac?
Mac, though I have nothing against PC.
04.] What programs do you use most often?
Photoshop CS5.
05.] Do you use mouse, or tablet?
Tablet, I can't manage using a mouse. xD
06.] What colour or colour combinations do you find yourself using most often?
Blues, I think, tend to pop up a lot. I like blue.
07.] What part of a picture do you put most effort into?
Definitely the shading. I spend a lot of time on shading. >.<
08.] How long does it take you do draw a picture?
Uh... Roughly 6 hours, for something like a pet drawing. Bigger things can take up to several days. If I'm slacking, a pet drawing can take weeks of just poking at it for a few minutes at a time.
09.] Do you keep your rough drafts?
I do two sketches, if that counts? Those layers aren't deleted until I finish the drawing.
10.] What font do you use most often?
Whatever font the word processor is set to, honestly. I don't tend to care much. I use Times New Roman when assignments require it.
11.] When you scan your image, what DPI do you use?
Uhhh, something high. Can't say I remember.
12.] Do you do anything else when you're drawing?
Usually, I listen to Pandora comedy. I like human voices. I'll often try to find someone on Facebook to talk to as well.
13.] Approximately how many pictures do you draw in a month?
Depends, from nothing to five or six drawings. Recently... I dunno, four or five?
14.] What kind of paper do you draw your pictures on?
Whatever paper is in my sketchbook, honestly. It's not copy paper, it's a bit softer and thicker.
15.] What kind of paper do you use for rough sketches and drafts?
Same as 14.
16.] How long does it take you to ink something?
An hour or so, if I'm being lazy. If the line art is really important, though, I'll spend several hours on it.
17.] Do you do comics, or fan comics?
I don't. However, I've considered doing a webcomic, as it sounds fun. I've always liked comics.
Well, actually, I've done one comic for a school project.
18.] Do you like comics? Are they fun to make?
I tend to very much enjoy comics, but I haven't made any except for school. That one was extremely rushed and was therefore not very much fun at all, but the art was enjoyable.
19.] Have you ever submitted anything to a magazine?
Nope.
20.] Did it get published?
Nothing to get published!
21.] Who are your favorite artists?
Many many many. I'm a huge fan of Coyotemange, though.
22.] Do you like anime/manga? If so, what are your favorite series?
I don't watch much anime, and I've only really read one manga. The anime I've watched has been pretty good, though.
-A Certain Scientific Railgun is pretty good. Kind of silly, but the powers are very creative and the animation is nice.
-Darker Than Black looks promising, but I've only seen two episodes, if that.
-Peula something Mudoku Magica is fun so far, but I've only seen two episodes.
23.] Do you like cartoons/comics? If so, what are your favorite series?
I like cartoons enough, or some at least. I grew up on Loony Toons, the Jetsons, the Flintstones and Tom and Jerry, but honestly I've lost my shine on those. More recently I've become a fan of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. Digimon Tamers also seems pretty good. As for comics, I don't read many, but I'm enjoying Kill Shakespeare and I'm going to read Fables at some point. Sandman was pretty good too.
24.] Any artists that you wish you could draw like?
Coyotemange? Did I mention that one? *Dies*
Also many of my friends have some badass art that I'm rather jealous of.
25.] Do you read a lot of books?
Not as much as I'd like to think. Honestly, I read rarely, even though it's something I enjoy. I tend to read from cover to cover in one sitting, so it takes a lot of time.
26.] Did you ever buy a book to inspire or teach you to draw?
I used to get those "How to draw an animal" books that showed you how to turn circles into a tiger and that sort of thing. I still love those, even if they're intended for young audiences. But no, I really don't buy art books. If anything I'll borrow one of my friend's many, and browse stuff online.
27.] Any video games you enjoy?
Plenty! I'm quite a World of Warcraft fan, and I love the Borderlands games, as well as the Halo series. Okami was great fun as well. Pikmin, Torchlight, Pokémon and Psychonauts are also all up there. And I also love some of the less exciting games, like Harvest Moon (though the time limit they have kills me) and Animal Crossing.
28.] Any favorite characters from video games?
Arthas, Master Chief, the Arbiter, Handsome Jack, Amaterasu... Many.
29.] Do you have a favorite writer?
Terry Pratchett, probably.
30.] Any books you really enjoy?
Every time this question comes up, I forget what I've read. I liked the first set of Warriors books. The Tiffany Aching series is quite good, and I loved Thief of Time. Thud!, Guards! Guards!, and Nightwatch are great. And... more books that I can't think of.
31.] Do you draw fanart?
Look at my gallery. Find something that's not. Takes a while, doesn't it?
32.] Do you listen to music while you draw?
Yeah, sometimes.
33.] Any recommended songs?
Uhm. Ladies and Gentlemen by Saliva, anything by Ozzy Osbourne, You're Gunna Go Far Kid...
34.] Any other art websites that you really enjoy?
Not really.
35.] Are there any websites that you go to everyday?
Petopia forums, RPS, GPX+, Dragon Cave, some webcomic pages... Facebook too though I'm avoiding it due to drama. (Real life stuff. Boo.)
36.] What is your dream website like?
A forum with a chat function and no drama ever. Lots of art. Everyone's online all the time.
37.] Do you like your own art?
Sometimes. I can be overwhelmingly proud one minute and think it's all trash the next.
38.] What do you enjoy watching on television?
Dr. Who, Supernaturals (I need to watch more...), Merlin (also need to watch more!), Sherlock, and... other... stuff. Actually, all those things are shows I watch online so... Absolutely nothing. I don't ever watch television.
39.] Favourite celebrity?
Uh, Misha Colins, Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki. They seem like a fun group. Also Matt Smith, Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman and David Tennant. Basically the people that act in the shows I like. And they're not really celebrities but whatever.
40.] Favourite colour?
Blue. I'm so creative.
41.] Favorite food?
Pasta. No, steak. No, pasta. Pasta and steak.
42.] Favorite drink?
Coffee is good.
43.] Do you like to go shopping? If yes, where? And for what?
Sometimes I enjoy it. Generally though, I just shop for groceries at Meijers and Walmart.
44.] Can you cook?
Sort of? I can cook if I have a recipe and directions.
45.] Any devices you use often for email?
I hardly ever use my email.
46.] Are you tech-savvy?
Not particularly. I can use things that are user-friendly and I'm not incredibly ignorant of how tech works, but I can't really fix problems.
47.] Do you want to become a professional artist?
Yes, yes I do.
48.] Are there any other jobs you're interested in?
I'd love to work with game art, and I'd really love to write some books, but that may be less likely.
49.] Any other hobbies or skills besides drawing?
Writing and gaming, I suppose. Not really skills. Honestly drawing (and sometimes writing) is the only thing I'm good at.
50.] Do you like to watch movies?
Eeeh. Sometimes. Movies tend to really stress me out, though.
51.] What's your favorite movie?
How To Train Your Dragon is really good. I guess I also like Brother Bear and... Yeah that's it. It's not that I hate other movies, I just don't watch many.
52.] Have you ever entered an art contest, here at DeviantART or otherwise?
Not on DA, but I've entered a few in the meatspace. Got an honorable mention? >.>
53.] When did you start drawing seriously?
Well, it was my favorite hobby since kindergarden. I don't know when I started taking it seriously because I always sort of did. I was too damn arrogant not to.
54.] Do you use references? If so, for what?
I use references for almost every drawing I do. I'm absolutely terrible at coming up with poses on my own, and my anatomy can be frankly abysmal without reference.
55.] Are you a subscriber? If so, are you a beta-tester?
I'm a subscriber, mostly because Silvadruid is fabulous and keeps getting me subscriptions for art.
56.] Do you have a lot of net friends?
I have a few very close ones, and a lot of less close ones. My very close ones are a lot more than just "net friends" for me.
57.] Do you have a lot of friends that also draw?
Yep. A lot of my online friends are arty people, and I have several arty meatspace friends.
58.] What time of the day do you usually go online?
I'm often online when I'm at home, in some way. Usually via WoW, DA or FB.
59.] Do you like to go to chat rooms?
Sometimes. I like chatting online but I don't use chatrooms much.
60.] Do you have your own computer?
Indeed I do.
61.] What would you say to the person that you admire?
"GIVE ME YOUR SKILLS AND MAKE ME A BETTER PERSON."
62.] Does your mind wander when you draw?
All the time. I can focus, but not often.
63.] Have you drawn poorly because you think too much?
Yeah, if I get apathetic.
64.] Do you have any friends who are professional artists?
Nope, though I know a few who have the skills to go professional.
65.] Where do you often hang out?
My computer desk.
66.] Are there any popular artists that you don't like much? (no need to name names if you don't want to)
There are a couple I know that are a bit dramatic, and a few that stroke their own ego too much for my tastes. But it's not too bad.
67.] Are there any situations in which you really don't like being a DeviantARTIST?
The popularity system is annoying, but honestly, this is the best art site I've found. Sure, people are involved and people can be annoying, but nothing has made me want to quit.
68.] How about situations that make you love it?
While people can be annoying, they also make the site worthwhile. I love random comments and the goofiness that a low-stress site like this can cause.
69.] What's the one thing that makes you grateful that the internet exists?
Research takes a few seconds, instead of days. That's amazing. The trade of information is beautiful, and the way people can connect across the world. I've also met a few people that I can't imagine not knowing.
70.] Is there anything out there that makes you wish the internet didn't exist?
Instant and free access to information means instant and free access to false information. Also, as Moon said, Youtube comments.
71.] What's your first Deviation?
[link]Old painting of an old dog.
72.] Any art you did prior to that?
Nothing online.
73.] Has your style changed a lot since joining DeviantART?
Uh, I'd say yes, but I don't know. I do digital stuff now?
74.] If it has changed, it what ways?
I do digital junk now. I've learned a lot about color and stuff like that.
75.] Have you experienced artist's block before?
Yeah, a lot.
76.] If so, how do you usually get out of it?
Working on something completely different and new can help.
77.] What do you do when you can't get out it?
Get really annoyed and depressed, usually. Then I play WoW.
78.] Any Deviants that have influenced you a lot?
Coyotemange? Also most of the people I watch, like Griffsnuff. As for artists I know more, Moonlost has hugely impacted how I do line art and poses. Silva has had a big impact on how I shade and do backgrounds.
79.] What made you want to start drawing?
I dunno, really, it was a long time ago. I guess jealousy. My best friend at the time was always a step above me when it came to art, so I always tried to be better than him.
80.] What made you want to join DeviantART?
I forget what, exactly. I guess I just wanted a place to show off.
81.] Has anything ever made you want to quit DeviantART?
Not really.
82.] What do you think about netiquette?
Uh, I'd like people to be nice. I'd love it if people would Snopes what they read and make sure they're not spreading misinformation. In addition, it'd be great if people could chill out.
83.] Have you ever been spammed or trolled?
Nope, not really.
84.] Ever thought about quitting art all together?
No, that I've never done. I've been cripplingly jealous, but I love art.
85.] If so, why?
I've never wanted to quit, but I admit, sometimes I'll see artists younger than I with far superior art and die a little bit.
86.] Do you upload high quality versions of your Deviations, or do you prefer to upload a lower quality?
Uhm, I dunno, really.
87.] Do you have custom CSS? If so, did you make it yourself?
Yup, something I nabbed from DA. Zelda is cool.
88.] Do you have good vision?
With my glasses, I have perfect 20/20. Without my glasses, my vision is abysmal.
89.] If you can get anyone's autograph, whose would you get?
Uhm, I dunno. Terry Pratchett's, I guess.
90.] What would you say to that person when he or she gives you an autograph?
"AAAAAH" probably.
91.] Do you like to draw on Oekaki BBS?
What is.
92.] Do you have a job?
Nope. In school, don't have much time.
93.] Did you take art in school? If so, did you do well? Are you still taking it?
I'm currently in AP art, and I've taken art plenty of times over the year. I hope to go to art classes in college.
94.] Have you taken art lessons outside of a school setting?
I went to a painting class once, and I'm currently going to a figure study class.
95.] Have you ever drawn something just because it was the cool thing to do -- the hip new fad?
Mm, not really. If it's the hip new fad and I'm drawing stuff for it, it's because I'm really into whatever that new fad is.
96.] What's your favorite phrase/quote?
"To thine own self be true." - Polonius. Not because of the meaning, but instead because of how hilariously incorrectly this quote is used.
97.] Do you present yourself differently online than you do in your real life?
Yeah, a little bit. I tend to be a bit less insane and more social. Also less emotional. I hate being emotional, so I usually try to hide it online.
98.] What's your goal now?
Survive until graduation. Try to get next year all sorted out so it can be as exciting as I hope it will be.
99.] What do you have to say to yourself?
Don't take things so seriously. Stop being so sensitive and suck it up.
100.] Lastly, what do you have to say to everyone who read this?
This was kind of fun. If you read this, kudos to you.
